Ruth and Avi were married at the West End Synagogue in London. It was great to be back there again as the Rabbis are always welcoming and inclusive.
The party and speeches were held at The Bloomsbury Ballroom. The Israeli dancing and Hora Dance were great fun and it was great to able to be in amongst everything. Jewish weddings are the most challenging to shoot because they are large and frenetic weddings compared to most. But, they always bring the best out of me and I felt in a really creative groove with everyone.
It was a really sunny day and there were some beautiful patches of light inside the Bloomsbury Ballroom which I decided to develop for some of the portraits with Ruth and Avi. I’m really pleased with how these came out.
I have photographed many Jewish weddings over the years and I really get a lot from them. I enjoy the cultural aspects and details surrounding the ceremony as well as how frenetic the parties are. A nice benefit of this is that it allows me to place myself in the right spot at the right time so that I can grab the emotional moments in good context. If you would like to see another example please click on this link to see Kitty and Robbie’s wedding which took place in the south of France near Avignon.
